There are many amazing courses on list building available for you to help you learn this extremely important aspect of your business. As you know, your list will prove to be your most valuable asset.

What many of these courses fail to mention, is that there is another great source for building a list, and that is JV Giveaways. This may very well be the most overlooked and underutilized list building technique.

A JV Giveaway is a site where members contribute a product to the site so that other members can download it for their personal use. How this builds your list is that if someone wants to download your product, they have to opt-in to your newsletter.

The best part is that it doesn’t cost anything to become a contributor and you can gain anywhere from a couple of hundred to a couple thousand subscribers from each JV Giveaway
that you participate in. Now, in my opinion, this has to be the single most easiest way to build yourself a list, especially if you don’t have one yet. Since all the contributors are required to promote the site, some giveaways end up having tens of thousands of members all there to download products.

There is also incentive for contributors to promote the giveaway since their ranking on the gifts page is directly proportionate to the amount of referrals they bring to the site. Even if you don’t have a list to promote to, you still will gain a decent amount of subscribers even at the bottom of the page.

Now, you may be wondering what is required of you to become a contributor so you can build your own list. All you need is a website, an autoresponder, and a product that you want to donate to the site. That’s it! In some cases, you don’t even need a website, but only the autoresponder. However, if you want to make a good impression on your new subscriber, it’s better to have your own website.

There are a couple of guys named Jason Dinner & Mike Mazzella who have built lists of their own in the thousands using JV Giveaways and they collaborated on a project to show you how
you can do the same.

Chances are you’ve heard the phrase “find your niche” more than once. But what does it really mean? Niche Marketing generally refers to the development of a monetized website intended to have a specific appeal to sub-mainstream markets. Most niche marketing websites are usually monetized with a mixture of Google Adsense and affiliate products.

Niche marketing is often considered an ideal venture for new marketers. This is because there is generally less competition in highly specific niches, which usually translates to lower operating and advertising costs. Choosing the right niche can also enable a new marketer to establish themselves as an expert while gaining valuable experience in the world of Internet marketing.

A profitable niche must meet a few requirements. The stronger each aspect is, the more profitable the niche can be. It comes down to “supply and demand.” First, it’s important that there are a good number of people actively searching for the information that your niche will be providing (i.e. high demand). Second, you’ll want to be sure that your niche does not have a lot of other websites targeting it (i.e. low supply). And finally, you’ll need to make sure there is money in your market. This all involves research.

Looking for a niche market should begin with a brainstorming session about things that you have some experience with or an interest in. Keep in mind, enjoying the niche you choose is always a plus as it will help you maintain your focus when building your business. Checking out your ideas on websites such as Yahoo Buzz, AOL Hot Searches, and eBay Pulse will give you a jump start on finding out if there is a high demand for them.

Keyword research is the absolute best way to drill down your niche into smaller, more specific sub-topics. Using the free keyword search tool offered by Wordtracker will assist with this. It will provide you with an estimated daily search volume for a given word and offer you suggestions for other words related to it. For example, doing a search for a topic like “recipes” will allow you to discover what types of recipes are being searched for and approximately how many people per day are searching for them.

Doing a search on Google, Yahoo, and MSN for each of your newly drilled down keywords (in quotes) is the next step. The top of each page will tell you exactly how many results contain that keyword. Remember, we are looking for a niche with a good number of searches but not too much competition. Also, take note of the number of Adwords ads that appear during your Google word searches. It’s important that you can confirm that advertisers are willing to pay for traffic for these words if you are planning on using Google Adsense on your new niche website.

Finally, you will need to find out if there are affiliate program available for your niche market. There are affiliate programs for almost everything these days, so the odds are in your favor. Checking affiliate networks such as Clickbank and Commission Junction are good places to begin. Simply doing a search for your keywords with the words “affiliate program” included will also give you a good idea of what’s out there.

Once you have compiled all of your information you should have a good idea of possible niche markets and if they have the potential to be profitable for you. The final decision on which niche market to target can be based on the highest search count, the least competitors, the highest number of Adwords ads or a combination of all of these factors. Finding the perfect balance between search volume and competition is up to you. Once you find your niche, you can move onto building your website to capitalize on it as effectively as possible. Be prepared. Niche marketing often results in big profits and tremendous success!

Have you heard of Squidoo? I’ve just been learning more about it myself and I love everything I’m seeing so far. Not only does Squidoo have some really great Web 2.0 webpages (called “lenses”) full of interesting and helpful information, but Squidoo can be used as a marketing technique for your Internet home business as well.

Here’s some basic info about Squidoo:

• It’s free. Always.
• You can make an interactive, Web 2.0 webpage in about 10 minutes
• The philosophy behind the site is collaborative.
• And you can use it to promote whatever business, expertise, service, or hobby you wish!

Now although it’s free, and relatively easy to get started, it’s great to have help in making sense of everything you can do with the site. I’ve been learning how to use the site a lot faster with the help of Bob The Teacher.

Bob really knows what he’s talking about. He’s had a lens hit #1 on the site, was picked for Lens of the day a couple of times, and was even highlighted in the New York Times for his expertise in a really weird topic. With Bob’s help, I’m learning how to take this free service and use it for affiliate marketing, list building, expertise branding, and promoting my business. It’s great! For some reason, this post has been popping my mind since then along with other thoughts as to why “newbies” tend to fail. Taking consistent action to build your business are at the top of my list. I hate to say it, but some people are lazy and want things to happen quickly with minimal effort. When you surf the net these days, so many opportunities have “make money while you sleep” or “start making $10,000 in 30 days”, so it’s no wonder that those new to Internet marketing tend to wonder why they don’t see results after 2-3 weeks. It takes time to a grow a business, but that is rarely (if ever) in any the business opportunity advertisements you read. It’s important not to expect too much too soon when building an online business. Be realistic. It often takes months for people to start seeing a regular profit, so there is no need to be discouraged by week 3 when you don’t see your mailbox filling up with checks.

Setting a monthly budget for your Internet business and defining your goals and expectations are key when you’re just starting out. It is important that you have a clear idea about what should be expected as well. When you launch a new website, unless your use Pay Per Click advertising, it will likely take some time to build and gain regular traffic to your site. Taking consistent actions like posting in forums, buying ezine solo ads, submitting to directories, surfing on traffic exchanges, posting on blogs, and writing and submitting articles all build up to have a cumulative effect over time. So, making a plan that includes daily tasks that you perform everyday is great advice. The most important things are not to give up, staying consistent, and knowing in your heart that failure is not an option!
